R. Kelly was charged with 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse and is facing 70 years behind bars. The singer is reportedly asking a judge to allow him to fly to the Middle East for a performance because he is allegedly broke. However, this supposedly creates great concerns for Joycelyn Savage‘s family.

Court filings claims before Kelly was arrested, he had signed a contract to perform between 3-5 shows in Dubai, UAE, in April 2019. The U.S. does not have an extradition treaty with the United Arab Emirates, which leads the family of Joycelyn Savage, 23, to believe he will take her with him and never return.
The Blast reports, “Savage family believes if he’s allowed to travel, it will remove all hope of ever getting their daughter back.”
There was supposed to be a meeting Joycelyn and her family, but Kelly allegedly shut it down.
No word on if the judge will allow him to travel, but NBC News reports his lawyer Steven A. Greenberg, who have called all the accusers liars, in a court filing on Wednesday said the singer needs money because “he has struggled of late to pay his child support and other child related expenses.”
The court filing also read, “Before he was arrested Mr. Kelly had signed a contract to perform between 3-5 shows in Dubai, UAE, in April 2019. He requests permission to travel to Dubai for the shows. While there he is supposed to meet with the royal family.”
NBC News also reports,” It is also unclear what is meant by ‘royal family.’ The UAE’s seven emirates are overseen by hereditary rulers who hold absolute power. Dubai’s ruler is Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, 69. His 36-year-old son, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, serves as Dubai’s crown prince and is next in line to be ruler.”
Kelly leaving the country and never returning isn’t far-fetched. When film director Roman Polanski was facing 50 years in prison for six counts of criminal behavior, including rape, he fled to France. Being that Polanski is a French citizen, he is protected from extradition. The charges are still pending.
Kelly was arrested Feb. 23 after surrendering to Chicago police following his indictment on the same day for 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. After spending the weekend in jail because he arguably had trouble paying the $100,000 for bail, a woman friend of his posted his bond.
Kelly was taken into custody again for failing to pay more than $160,000 in child support but was released a few days later after someone else paid his bond. The latest sex crime charges he is facing stem from attorney Michael Avenatti giving purported child porn videos that featured the singer. Avenatti said he was hired last April in connection to multiple allegations of Kelly sexually assaulting minors. He claimed to have videotaped evidence, which, despite their similarities, were apparently not the same video footage that got Kelly indicted in 2002 — and acquitted in 2008 — for child porn.
Interest in seeing Kelly charged for his alleged crimes came at the beginning of the year when the bombshell docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly” aired with several women accusing him of sexually abusing them when they were underage.
