The world was still mourning the loss of 33-year-old Nipsey Husslejust days after the rapper was gunned down on Sunday. Now his grandmother, who raised him, was speaking out for the first time.

“I never knew there was so much love like I love him. So that’s uplifting that so many people loved and understood him…,” Margaret Boutte, 88, told CBS in Los Angeles. “I hope these young people will get the message and live a better life – live a better life.”
It is quite possible Hussle’s death will create change for the youth in his hometown of South Central Los Angeles. There was a unity meeting with gang members on Friday, when rival gang leaders came together for a Nipsey Hussle vigil.
Hussle’s grandmother also revealed how she found out about her grandson’s death. She was home when Hussle’s brother Samiel got a call that he had been shot.
“He got the call and he ran out of here so fast. He never did that in the morning,” she said. “Right away, I called his mother. I said ‘Angel, something must have happened.’ I said ‘Samiel jumped up, he didn’t take his shower, he got out of here so fast. Sammy got up there soon enough to start helping his brother. Erias knew Sammy was there before he died.”
The man accused of shooting Hussle is 29-year-old Eric Holder. However, the late rapper’s grandmother only had kind words for him.
“I’m praying for him too,” she said. “I hope he does not get killed in custody. Have enough time to ask God for forgiveness. I’m Catholic, I do believe in prayer and I’m praying for him. He was a young, ignorant situation and I’m hoping he’s sorry for what he did.”
Holder was arrested Tuesday afternoon. He was found in Bellflower, California, which is located in southeast Los Angeles.

Los Angeles police Chief Michel Moore implied there was a feud between Hussle and Holder. He “declined to elaborate on the feud between the two, saying he didn’t want to jeopardize any potential prosecution, but he said the suspect approached Nipsey and others multiple times, engaging them in conversation,” CNN.com reported. Moore did say the dispute does not appear gang-related.
